Unlike some Kheops One songs, Future Obsessions does not tell its story in a straightforward sequence of events. There is no clearly defined breakup, character or conclusion. Instead, Goran Vedriš and Josipa Tomola created lyrics built around questions, fragmented thoughts and striking images.

Someone is present - yet somehow not really there. Someone wants to be heard and seen. Someone feels like a ghost or shadow in another person's world. And memories have become entangled with obsessions. That ambiguity is an important part of the song.

Rather than explaining exactly what happened, Future Obsessions describes what it feels like to become emotionally trapped inside thoughts and memories that refuse to disappear.

Lyrics and Meaning of "Future Obsessions"

Future Obsessions opens with questions rather than answers. The narrator wants to know whether they can still be heard and whether someone can see the truth inside. Then comes an even stranger contradiction:

“Can you feel me even though I’m not really here”

That single idea captures much of the atmosphere of the song. Someone can be absent physically yet remain overwhelmingly present in another person's thoughts - or conversely, be physically present while feeling emotionally invisible. The lyrics deliberately leave room for both interpretations.

The Ghost and the Shadow

Two of the strongest images in Future Obsessions are the ghost and the shadow. The narrator wonders whether they have become a ghost to someone - a person who once mattered but is now barely acknowledged. The shadow takes that feeling even further. A shadow exists, but it has no independent identity. It follows something else. That makes the line about being lost inside another person particularly significant. The narrator appears to have lost part of their own identity within this emotional connection. It isn't simply about missing somebody.

It is about the danger of becoming consumed by what somebody else represents.

What Does "Future Obsessions" Mean?

The title itself never receives a simple explanation in the lyrics. And I wouldn't invent one. Instead, the words suggest a struggle between memories, identity and obsession. Memories normally belong to the past. Obsessions can follow us into the future. That creates an interesting tension within the title Future Obsessions.

Something that has already happened can continue to control what comes next. The final thought - “obsessions be gone” - therefore becomes crucial. The narrator doesn't want to remain inside this cycle. They want their life back.

Ailyn Mondragon and "Future Obsessions"

Future Obsessions shows another side of The Ailyn Mondragon Era. Her vocals are not being used here primarily to tell a conventional love story. Instead, she gives voice to a much more abstract inner struggle. That distinguishes the song from the recordings preceding it.

The song was subsequently included on End of the Game, where it appears as track 6. It therefore belongs naturally to two parts of the Kheops One structure:

while its original single release gives the song an individual history of its own.
