Instrumental music has always been an important part of the musical identity of Kheops One. Alongside songs featuring different vocalists, Kheops One has created instrumental works in which guitars, melodies and arrangements tell the story without the use of lyrics.
Without a human voice to guide the listener, the instruments take over that role. Guitar melodies, riffs, solos, rhythm and changes in atmosphere become the means through which emotion and ideas are expressed.
The absence of lyrics does not mean the absence of a story. Kheops One's instrumental works can create moods, images and emotions entirely through music. Some compositions are driven by powerful guitar playing, while others use melody and atmosphere to create a more reflective or cinematic experience.
This gives the instrumental side of Kheops One its own identity within the wider catalogue.
Rather than explaining what a listener should feel through words, these compositions leave more room for personal interpretation.
The guitar has always played an important role in the Kheops One sound, but in the instrumental works it naturally moves even further into the foreground. Melodies and solos can effectively become the "voice" of a composition, while bass, drums, keyboards and other musical elements provide the structure, dynamics and atmosphere around them.
The result can range from melodic and emotional to energetic, progressive or experimental, depending on the individual composition. Each instrumental work therefore has its own musical story, which is explored in more detail on its dedicated song page.
The instrumental works should not be seen as a separate period between the different vocal eras of Kheops One. Instead, they represent a parallel and continuing part of the Kheops One catalogue.
While collaborations with Ailyn Mondragon, Caroline von Brünken and Ruth Bootsma define different vocal chapters, the instrumental compositions show another side of the same musical identity; one where no singer is needed to carry the melody or communicate emotion.
Sometimes a song needs words to tell its story.
Sometimes the music can speak entirely for itself.
