Sunshine is an emotional rock ballad by Kheops One featuring vocalist Ailyn Mondragon.

The song was written by Kheops One founder and guitarist Goran Vedriš in 2009, but its recorded story began much later. In 2020, Sunshine was recorded with Ailyn Mondragon on vocals, Goran Vedriš on guitars and bass, Marcus Hauck on drums and Johannes Then on piano and organ.

It was released on September 15, 2020 and later became part of the Kheops One album End of the Game. At the heart of Sunshine is a simple emotional contrast:

sunshine represents the person who is missed, while rain represents the separation

between them.

The result is a song about longing - but also about the hope that the rain will eventually disappear.

The Story Behind "Sunshine"

Sunshine has a history that stretches back more than a decade before the release of the End of the Game album. Goran Vedriš wrote the song in 2009. It would take until 2020 before the composition received its recorded form with the musicians who became closely associated with this chapter of Kheops One.

Ailyn Mondragon provided the vocals, with Goran performing guitars and bass, Marcus Hauck playing drums and Johannes Then adding piano and organ as well as producing the recording.

That gap between composition and recording makes Sunshine a good example of an important part of the Kheops One story.

Not every song began when listeners first heard it. Some musical ideas existed for years before the right musicians, circumstances and opportunity came together to turn them into finished recordings. Sunshine is one of those songs.

Lyrics and Meaning of "Sunshine"

The lyrics of Sunshine revolve around absence, memory and the hope of reunion. Someone important is no longer near. The narrator remembers physical details - brown eyes and sweet lips - but also thinks about earlier times and wonders when that person will return. Even music triggers those memories.

The strongest imagery, however, comes from the contrast between sunshine and rain. Sunshine is associated with the person who is missed. Rain represents the period of separation. That makes the recurring idea behind the chorus particularly important:

when the rain finally disappears, reunion becomes possible.

Sunshine therefore isn't purely a sad song about losing someone. It is a song about missing someone while still believing they may return.

Older Kheops One material could finally be revisited and transformed into professionally

recorded releases with a new group of musicians.

The recording and original release date from 2020.

Later, Sunshine became part of End of the Game, the first Kheops One studio album. This gives the song two places in the Kheops One catalogue: it has its own history as an individual release, while also becoming part of the larger musical story told through the End of the Game album.
